When you spend a big portion of your day on conference calls or listening to dialog-heavy content, the quality the speaker or headphones you listen with is important. Many people (myself included) prefer not to wear headphones for 8+ hours per day and conferencing speakers provide an alternative, but many of the options on the market feature lackluster speakers that don’t actually help the listener hear & understand the sound source all that well. The BenQ treVolo U promises to improve your video conferencing and e-learning experience by focusing on the clarity of dialog. It also happens to sound pretty good for music.

I’ve tried other conferencing speakers over the last few years, including the Jabra Speak 510 and the Poly Sync 20 (samples in the video below). They always left me feeling like something was missing – either in sound quality or features. The Speak 510 works fine connected over USB, however I had some stability issues over the Bluetooth connection. It also sounds pretty terrible for music, so it is not a great option if you want an all-in-one speaker for multiple purposes. The Poly Sync 20 provides more natural sound for music, but the bass feels like it is over-compensating for the speaker’s compact size and sounds a bit muffled. The BenQ treVolo U improves the sound quality significantly, and offers different modes for music, video, and live learning.
